Fast Freddie and the Be Bop Daddies WoW Willand

The truly awesome Be Bop Daddies came to Willand, saw and massively conquered according to Willand Rovers’ commercial manager Bruce Henderson.

“We got a really great crowd for the night. What happened next was simply awesome as the band just took the crowd by storm and left them stunned then yelling for more.

I have never seen a performance or crowd reaction like it at this level of venue”, said Bruce.

“We will definitely have them back and we know people in the audience booked them on the night for their own events. They are not just class performers, they’re professional entertainers.”

Led by the legendary South London front man, Fast Freddie Horton, (pictured) the Daddies authentic 50’s Rock 'n' Roll had Willand rocking.

On the live circuit in 1990, Freddie's band ‘The Fingertips’ were the opening act for superstar Cher on her Love Hurts Tour, playing all the major venues including Wembley.

He quit the rat race and moved to Seaton, Devon, where he met another fugitive from London’s music scene, guitarist Johnny Davies, the Daddies were born .

The highlight of an amazing night, evidently, was the slap bass player lying on his back on the bar, holding the bass up on his feet while he played it.

Later, other band members stood on the side of the bass and played their own instruments while the bass player lay on the floor slapping the notes out!

The incredible Fast Freddie on vocals was simply a different class and the audience left wondering if they had been at Willand or Wembley Arena. More than one person said: “we’ve been privileged to see a band of this quality locally.”
