This is a new band to me, but clearly they are experienced and very capable. I can’t wait to see ‘em live!
The Daddies are fast Freddy Horton (Lead Vocals and Attitude); Honest John Davies (Lead Guitar and Vocals); Charlie Big Potatoes a.k.a. Dave Raven (Slap Bass); and Lewie Lewis (Drums and Backing Vocals).
‘The Be Bop Daddies are a live, entertaining and authentic Rock ‘n’ Roll Band, promoting Rock ‘n’ Roll the way it was, the way it is and the way it will ever be.’
‘They shook hands and hugged like men do. The Daddies began. The rest is history.’
This is a smashing Rock ‘n’ Roll C.D. with a great sound; it is very well produced and packaged.
Key words for me are ‘Performance’ and ‘Enjoyment’ and ‘Attitude’.
The fun cover design sets it up nicely. It is part cartoon of the band and part American car photo, and it works well.
As the lead vocalist demonstrates, there is real attitude from start to finish.
They blend together and harmonise like Marilyn Monroe and a Pink Cadillac.
They exude Rock ‘n’ Roll style, sensuality and experience.
Wham! They hit you with a powerful acapello intro into ‘Drop Top’ which drives along at a brisk jive pace and ends just as tightly as it started.
They perform each number with verve and passion. Take ‘One Night’ for example, it definitely ain’t Elvis, but it’s Daddies – raunchy, soulful and heartfelt. I love it.
Similarly, Chuck Berry’s ‘Nadine’ is given Daddies drive and bounce with raunchy sax interspersions and solo from guest virtuoso, Snake Davis.
By the time they get into ‘Love Bug Crawl’ they are really motivating and they end up on the crest of a wave in a rollin, strollin version of ‘Sea Cruise’.
In just 10 well chosen tracks, they cover a range of Rock ‘n’ Roll that will set dance halls and discos rocking.
I’ll play it and play it.
Let the ‘Drop Top ‘and the Daddies roll on!
